The war of 1812
In the summer of 1812 the United States found itself at war with Great Britain. The War of 1812 was a conflict that lasted from June 1812 to February 1815.The United States declared war on the British. One of the reasons was because the British forced as many as 10,000 American merchant sailors into the Royal Navy. The British were also helping the Native American tribes fight the American settlers on the frontier. The war was fought in three different places. The first was fought at sea. The second was fought on the United States Canadian frontier. The third was fought in the Southern United States and the Gulf Coast. The Creek War was also known as the Red Stick War and the Creek Civil War was a regional war between opposing Creek factions. The Creek War began as a conflict within the Creek Confederation and the US armies became involved. The war ended with the Treaty of Fort Jackson in 1814. The Battle of New Orleans was the final major battle of the War of 1812.The war was ended after three years with the signing of the Treaty of Ghent. The late victories over the British at the battles of Plattsburgh and Baltimore inspired the United States national anthem, "The Star-Spangled Banner". There was a sense across the country of a second war of independence against Great Britain. This brought on the "Era of Good Feelings".
